Getting Started
1. How to embed VoteAmericaPlus tools
Overview
Embedding VoteAmericaPlus tools lets your audience take action, such as registering to vote or verifying registration, directly on your website.
It is fast, secure, and requires no special technical expertise.
How to embed a tool
- Log into your VoteAmericaPlus customer portal at secure.voteamerica.org.
- Navigate to the Embed codes page at secure.voteamerica.org/embed.
- Select the tool you would like to embed (for example, Register, Verify, or Vote by Mail).
- Copy the two lines of JavaScript embed code.
- Paste the code into the HTML of your website where you want the tool to appear. This works the same way as embedding a YouTube video.
Best practice: We recommend embedding one tool per page for best performance and analytics tracking.
Customization options
You can customize the appearance of your embedded tools:
- Button color
- Link text color
These small updates allow your embedded tools to match your site’s look and feel while maintaining accessibility and VoteAmerica’s trusted branding.
Please email sales@voteamerica.org for customizations.
Tracking embedded tool performance
Every embedded action is automatically attributed to your organization in your VoteAmericaPlus dashboard.
You can also add UTM parameters to your tool URLs for more detailed campaign tracking. See our Tracking Campaign Performance article for details.
2. Using Easy Links
Overview
Easy Links are the quickest way to start using VoteAmerica tools without needing to add code to your website.
Each link directs voters to a lightly branded VoteAmerica page tied to your account, and all resulting actions are automatically attributed to you.
How Easy Links work
When you create your VoteAmericaPlus account, a set of Easy Links is automatically generated for you, one for each voter tool.
For example:
https://voteamerica.org/l/YourOrg/verify/
Each link:
- Opens a hosted VoteAmerica page
- Tracks voter actions back to your organization
- Can be used immediately in any outreach channel
By default, your URL will have an auto-generated numeric ID and you will have the chance to select a unique vanity name in the customer portal.
Where to Use Easy Links
You can share your Easy Links anywhere your audience engages:
- In emails or text messages
- On your website or blog
- In social media posts
- In digital ad campaigns
Each action taken through an Easy Link will appear in your VoteAmericaPlus dashboard with full attribution.
Why use Easy Links?
- Fast setup: no embedding or coding needed
- Full attribution: all data tied to your account
- Low maintenance: VoteAmerica hosts and manages the pages
- Perfect for testing: use different Easy Links for different campaigns or messages
Example
| Tool | Example Easy Link |
| Verify | https://voteamerica.org/l/YourOrg/verify/ |
| Register | https://voteamerica.org/l/YourOrg/register/ |
| Locate | https://voteamerica.org/l/YourOrg/locate/ |

4. Tracking campaign performance
Overview
Tracking how voters interact with your VoteAmericaPlus tools helps you understand what works and optimize future outreach.
You can track performance using UTM parameters and JavaScript events.
Using UTM parameters
UTM parameters are small pieces of text you add to a URL that help you identify where your traffic came from.
Example
https://voteamerica.org/l/YourOrg/register/?utm_campaign=2025_gotv&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter
When a voter completes an action using this link, those UTM details are saved with the action data in your dashboard and exports.
Recommended UTM Fields
| Parameter | Description | Eample |
utm_campaign |
The name of your campaign | 2025_gotv |
utm_medium |
The type of message | email , sms , social |
utm_source |
Where the link appeared | newsletter , facebook , homepage |
You can use UTMs to:
- Attribute actions to specific campaigns
- A/B test different messages or channels
- Track ROI across outreach programs
Using JavaScript events
Embedded tools also produce JavaScript events when voters start and complete actions.
These can be used to send information to external tools such as Google Tag Manager or Meta Pixel.
This lets you build custom analytics dashboards or track conversion events within your marketing platforms.
Best Practices
- Use consistent UTM naming across all channels.
- Always test your links before launching a campaign.
- Review your dashboard regularly to monitor attribution and trends.

7. Follow-up emails from VoteAmerica
Overview
VoteAmerica automatically follows up with voters after they interact with your tools. These messages ensure voters complete their actions, receive important details, and are encouraged to take the next step in their voting journey.
There are two types of follow-ups: Immediate and Delayed.
Immediate action follow-ups
These messages are sent right after a voter takes an action.
When action is required
If a voter needs to do something to complete their task, they will receive an email with detailed instructions and any necessary forms.
- Example: A voter registers in a state that requires printing and mailing a form. They receive an email with the form attached and mailing instructions.
When information might be needed later
If the voter received information they may want to refer to later, VoteAmerica emails them a copy.
- Example: A voter uses the Calendar tool and is emailed their list of upcoming elections.
When the action is complete and there’s a smart next step
If the voter finished their task, VoteAmerica sends guidance on what they can do next.
- Example: A voter verifies their registration and lives in a Permanent Absentee Voting state. They receive an email with instructions on how to sign up for Permanent Absentee Voting.
Delayed action follow-ups
Delayed follow-ups help voters finish what they started or return at the right time.
When a voter drops off before finishing
If a voter starts a workflow but does not complete it, VoteAmerica emails them about 30 minutes later with instructions to finish.
- Example: A voter begins the Register tool but never chooses between online or print/mail options.
When a voter needs to come back later
Some voters need to return later to complete their task. VoteAmerica automatically reminds them by email and text.
- Example:
- A FutureVoter user did not have their ID handy. They are sent a reminder that evening.
- A FutureVoter user is too young to pre-register. They are sent a reminder when they reach the required age.
When action is required but not yet completed
If a voter has not completed a required step, VoteAmerica sends reminder emails or texts one and two days later.
- Example: A voter is emailed a registration form but has not downloaded or mailed it yet.
Why follow-ups matter
These automated communications help voters stay engaged and successfully complete their tasks, reducing drop-off rates and ensuring every possible vote is cast.
8. Election Reminders
Overview
VoteAmerica’s election reminder program keeps voters informed of key election deadlines and helps ensure they never miss a chance to vote.
Reminders are automatically sent to voters who use any VoteAmerica tool or opt in directly.
Reminder types
VoteAmerica sends reminders based on state-specific timelines and eligibility rules.
| Reminder Type | Description | When Sent |
| Verify your registration | Sent ahead of registration deadlines in states without Election Day registration. | In the week before the deadline. |
| Sign up for Permanent Absentee Voting (PAV) | Sent before ballot request deadlines in PAV states. | In the week before the deadline. |
| Return your ballot | Sent to voters in universal vote-by-mail states. | Before ballot return deadlines. |
| Get Out the Vote (GOTV) | Sent to all voters before Election Day. | In the final few days leading up to the election. (Generally the day before Election Day) |
Channels
Reminders are sent via:
- Email: The core channel for all reminders.
- SMS: Used for select campaigns for voters who have opted-in to receive text messages.
How voters join the program
Any voter who uses a VoteAmericaPlus tool is automatically added to the email reminder program, ensuring continued engagement and support through every election cycle. There is a checkbox to opt-into text messages as well.
Example reminder flow

https://voteamerica.org/l/YourOrg/verify/. - They receive an email confirmation.
